Horse Assisted Psychotherapy
Equine
Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is an emerging
field in which horses are used as a tool for
emotional growth and learning. EAP is a
collaborative effort between a Licensed Mental
Health Professional and an Equine Specialist.
EAP is experiential in nature. It is a powerful
therapeutic approach that has an incredible
impact on individuals, youth , families and
groups.
Jimmy
Downes, Marilyn McCarthy, LCSW
and Ellen Donaghey are all EAGALA
Certified and will be facilitationg the Equine
Assisted Psychotherapy and the 12 Step Model
Workshop. Participants (5 years and
over) will be able to interact with the
horses experiencing this new and innovative
model that is helping patients at Arms Acres
find their path to a healthy, sober, successful
life.
Unit
12 Step Recovery Meetings
Alumni
and families (children 12 and over) will be
split into small groups. Each group will have a
meeting on a unit with the patients. After the
scheduled speaker for the meeting shares, each
patient, alumni and family member will have an
opportunity to share. Children under 12 will
gather in the Dining Hall to participate in a
Recovery Art Project.
